The third patch, released on August 9, 2017, made only one known change:
Communication errors no longer occur frequently while spectating or after spectating online matches. It is now no longer possible to use an item after it has been used to block an attack.Items shown in a player’s item slots now display correctly when holding an item behind them.If possible, the Boomerang now returns to the first item slot after a player catches it.Online matches now end as intended 30 seconds after the first place racer finishes. The item roulette no longer spins continuously in online matches. When a player uses an item right after the Super Horn in online matches, that item will now remain available for other players.Controls are no longer unresponsive when the timer runs out when choosing a Mii racing suit for online matches. No more than two Piranha Plants will be granted as items at the same time in online matches.Items were rebalanced for online play to further aid those who are falling behind.Race rules and course name are now displayed on loading screens for online and wireless play, as well as Mario Kart TV.Players can use the new Pikmin amiibo to unlock a Pikmin Suit for the Mii driver.
The second patch was released on June 28, 2017, making the following changes: This is due to the animation resembling an obscene gesture.
Changed one of Inkling Girl's animations for hitting another player with an item.Players also get a speed boost after pressing the button, though its effects are much more similar to using a Mushroom. Note that the button used to be an anti-gravity booster. Also, the final one has an effects model in MapObj\TS_Prison_FX to go along with the main model. The test version has a smaller collision file, doesn't have a separate collision file for the switch and doesn't have any sound files in its folder. MapObj\PrisonTest contains a test version of the prison used in Renegade Roundup. Of course, this is just speculation, but maybe it was intended to be an addition to N64 Toad's Turnpike? This model isn't in the Wii U version, but was added to the Switch version for some odd reason. It doesn't exist in aml, but when added into it, the model does load properly, but doesn't have its original functions. It only has a single animation for the key on the back of it. The eyes are now 3D, the wheel animation doesn't exist, and it doesn't have the lights coming out of its eyes. This model was actually ported directly from the latter game, but with a few slight differences. MapObj/BombCar has an unused Bob-omb Car model from the track Mushroom Bridge and Mushroom City from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, along with Moonview Highway from Mario Kart Wii. It was removed for unknown reasons, though the best guess is it may have simply been too hard. There are no other references for this difficulty, so it may have been cut early in development. In most of the AI tables ( RaceCommon/AI), there's some AI settings for an Expert difficulty. This concept later resurfaced in Mario Kart Tour. In aml there are six references to "Gyakusou", which means "Reverse Run" in Japanese. There seems to have once been plans for a racing mode where the racers go around the track backwards.
